The story
IT WAS MARCH 2020
and indie locked himself in the lab
For 2 years Indie Guinn crafted the eponymous debut that set his music career in motion. First produced on Garageband for iPad, then imported into Logic Pro and re-produced at High Bias Studios by Chris Koltay, this album contains the charm of a raw punk act, while presenting textures akin to bedroom pop, hip-hop, and classic blues rock. However, Indie pulled from an even wider range than this to conglomerate the sonic palette that is “Indie Guinn”. Recognizing his technical deficiencies at this young stage, Indie prioritised finding the perfect combination of sounds for each selection. The result is 10 unique yet cohesive songs that explore some of the many interesting styles Indie has discovered along the way. Each vision was brought into focus by Chris Koltay, who’s advice and assistance finishing the project was invaluable.
"est. 2000" is the follow up EP, and sees Indie take on the full meaning of his name. The project was written, performed, produced, and mixed by Indie. This project takes a slightly more introspective tone, but both lyrically and sonically shows the growth of a maturing artist settling into the groove. The small number of selections on the project (six) gave the opportunity for Indie to explore the bounds of eclecticism through each. Subsequently, a Dylan-esque ballad with gravity, some indie rock/pop stylings, a hunt soundtrack, and the return of raga-rock are featured unapologetically. Indie was, at this stage, less concerned with how to make the prettiest music and more so how to make the most interesting. It is impossible to make it through the project without an extended period of deep thought, as the lyrical ponderings and musical experimentation open up our imagination to a welcomed invasion.
"Pigtails" is Indie’s third project, the second approaching a full length album, and also the second done entirely on his own. The album was written, recorded, mixed and mastered in under a month. After deliberating over each minute detail of his eponymous album, “Pigtails” had a stronger emphasis on fun. The selections reflect this spontaneous, free spirit that carried him through the creative stages, and more closely represents the indie rock identity that shaped Guinn’s youth.
His fourth project "Skateboard Parking" was inspired by the streets of Downtown Detroit. Summer shined bright and the guitars rang loud. Amid developing, practicing and perfecting a live repertoire, Indie Guinn recorded this short form album in the moments a microphone happened to be near.
